Youth learn filmmaking basics at Shorties U workshop
Sylvania’s beloved youth filmmaking program, Shorties U, presented by Sylvania Arts, returns this year on four Saturdays in February from 9-12 noon on the campus of Epworth Church. Students in fifth through eighth grades can participate in a four-Saturday workshop mentored by local film and media professionals teaching video production essentials. Lessons include developing an idea, writing a script, shooting on a budget and the fundamentals of editing. Teams will consist of 5-10 students with the goal to create a short film by the closing of the session. A film screening and pizza party and Q&A session for the students with the local professionals will close out the workshop series on a date in March (TBD) and the student films will be a part of the Tree City Film Festival to be held in the fall.
Program participation is limited to the first 25 registrants. Interested students can register online at Sylvania Arts by 1/11/2026. The cost is $110/participant.
